About our cause
Wealden Works core objective is to develop employability and life skills for those 16-24 year olds who are not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET). Following the end of main stream education at GCSE age, students can opt to enrol with Wealden Works to help develop further skills and qualifications and explore career choices.
During their time with Wealden Works there are opportunities for work trials and business tours to help provide an insight into industries that may match skills and interests. Choosing a career, apprenticeship or even a college course can be a particularly challenging experience for young people, especially if living in rural isolated areas. Wealden Works is there to support and provide guidance to each learner with the ultimate goal of providing a positive progression/pathway following the time spent at Wealden Works.
Four 10 week programmes are available each year enabling up to 40 participants to benefit from individually tailored sessions combined with 1-1 mentoring that is designed to ensure both practical and personal issues can be addressed. During the programmes participants will receive a mix of both life and work skills, achieve accredited qualifications, employment opportunities, help producing professional CVs and introductions to local businesses. An understanding of personal budgeting and independent living, as well as various workshops, help to ensure they have the life skills to move forward with their lives.
Wealden Works services are free and offers on site confidential professional counselling available to all participants to address any emotional, behavioural or psychological issues. Uniquely Wealden Works also run an aftercare programme for all participants for a year after completion of the programme and this ensures that any personal and practical issues can be addressed and that ensures success is long term.
We know how important it is for young people to have face to face contact with their peers be able to meet with others in a similar situation and have the opportunity to understand their circumstances and feelings are quite in line with others of their age transitioning from school to the adult world of work, having access to Wealden Works sessions stops young people from feeling isolated and alone which we know is a very big barrier for some, which has be exacerbated since the pandemic. It gives the young people a focus and a place of safety.
We need your help to continue helping the young people of the future.
Many thanks, and good luck.
